Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 29, 2026

MockGPS (“the App”) is developed by srmntjpg (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how the App handles location information, saved places, settings, and information processed by the services it uses.

Summary

The App does not require an account. Favorites, recent searches, and preferences are stored on your device, and the App does not send this information to a developer-operated server. The App does not include advertising or a separate analytics service. Google Maps and your device's location and geocoding services process information to provide their features, as described below.

Location and mock-location features

The App requests approximate and precise location permissions. With permission, it uses Google Play services to center the map on your current location and enables Google Maps' location display. You can manage these permissions in Android settings; denying or revoking them can prevent setup or location features from working.

When you start a mock-location session, the App supplies your selected coordinates to Android's mock-location providers. The session runs as a foreground service and can continue while you use another app. Other apps with location access may receive and process those coordinates under their own privacy policies. Publishing a mock location does not hide your IP address or prevent other services from determining your location in other ways.

You must select MockGPS as the mock location app in Developer Options. The App requests notification permission for session status and controls, and may ask you to exempt it from battery optimization so that the session can continue reliably. You can stop the session in the App or through its notification. The App does not request Android's separate background-location permission.

Maps, location services, and place search

The App uses Google Maps to display maps. Google's Maps SDK collects technical information such as device and SDK metadata, crash information, an IP address, and a pseudonymous SDK identifier. Map interactions, including panning and zooming, may also be collected. Google uses this information to operate and improve its services. See Google's Maps SDK data disclosure and Google's Privacy Policy.

Place-name searches are passed to Android's geocoding service, which may send your search text to the service provider to return matching places. Valid latitude and longitude pairs are parsed on your device, although displaying the resulting map still uses Google Maps. Your device's location and geocoding providers handle information under their own privacy policies.

If you choose to open a selected location in Google Maps, its coordinates are passed to the Google Maps app or website.

Information stored on your device

The App uses local storage to remember:

This information supports searching, organizing places, restoring the interface, and running your selected mock-location session. It is not automatically uploaded to us.

Favorites exports and Android backups

You can export favorites as a JSON file and restore them from a file you select through Android's document picker. Exports contain your favorites' names, descriptions, coordinates, altitude, appearance settings, identifiers, and timestamps. The App does not encrypt these files. Anyone with access to an export can read it.

The file is written to the destination you choose. If that destination is a cloud storage provider, the provider may upload and store it under its own policy. Deleting App data or uninstalling the App does not delete exported files.

Android backup and device transfer are enabled for App data, with setup completion preferences excluded. Depending on your device and backup settings, stored locations, recent searches, and other preferences may be backed up or transferred by Android or your backup provider. Manage those copies through the relevant device or provider settings.

Diagnostics and support

The App writes diagnostic messages to Android's system logs. These can include search text, entered coordinates, search results counts, and error details. The App does not automatically upload these logs to us. Logs may be included in device diagnostics or a bug report you choose to share.

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you send. We use that information to respond to your request. Avoid including sensitive location details in support messages or diagnostic attachments unless needed to explain the issue.

Sharing and external services

We do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is processed by the mapping, location, geocoding, backup, and file-storage providers described above as needed for the features you use. Mock coordinates are also made available through Android to other apps with location access.

Links to Google Play, Ko-fi, and the App website open services governed by their own privacy policies. If you contact us, your email provider and ours process the correspondence. Information you provide to us may be disclosed when required by applicable law.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

Local data remains until you remove it, the App replaces it, or it is removed with the App. Recent search history is limited to the latest 20 entries. Support correspondence is retained as needed to handle your request and any applicable legal obligations. For a privacy request concerning information you have sent us, contact srmntjpg@gmail.com. We cannot remotely access or delete data held only on your device, in your exported files, or by your backup provider.

Security

App databases and preferences use Android's private application storage. Exported files are outside that private storage and should be kept in a location you trust. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The App is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through support correspondence. Contact us if you believe a child has sent us personal information so we can address the request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the App's features or data practices change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
